Adam Mahr is a 22-year-old wood-burning artist from Pittsburgh, PA. Graduating from Plum High School in 2017 and then from the University of South Florida in 2020 with a degree in marine biology. Adam currently resides in St. Petersburg, Florida, where his talent for wood-burning was discovered during the early days of the pandemic lockdown.
While in high school, Mahr discovered his artistic abilities. As he stated, “Art class in high school is really when I found out that I had some artistic abilities when it came to drawing. For a long time, I only focused on pencil drawings. Little did I know that I would take up wood burning someday”. Because of Mahr’s motivated and self-challenging personality, his artistic abilities have flourished since then.
Mahr’s creative inspiration happens to be anyone that is an artist. He enjoys scrolling on social media, admiring and engaging with other talented artists regarding them and their artwork. Mahr stated, “I have come a far way in the two years that I have been doing this, but I still feel like there are so many opportunities to continue to grow”. He loves to create new ideas, challenge himself throughout his art, and rarely makes the same piece twice.
Mahr, like the rest of us, got bored pretty quickly during the 2020 pandemic lockdown. One day as he was scrolling up and down Instagram, he saw a couple of wood-burning artwork posts, and after deciding whether or not to buy one, he thought to give it a try. Mahr is a self-taught talent and continues to hone his craft and develop his skills by watching YouTube tutorial videos or taking on new challenging pieces from his clients. From asking Mahr what the most difficult and easiest skill you had to learn in regards to wood burning was, his answers were quite intriguing.
